New Thor: Ragnarok Poster Features Doctor Strange

Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) has officially made his Thor: Ragnarok poster debut. The Sorcerer Supreme had already appeared in some of the trailers for the movie, but had yet to join the cast of the God of Thunder’s third solo film in an official promotional poster – until now.

Directed by New Zealander director Taika Waititi, Ragnarok immediately differentiates itself not just from the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but also from the preceding Thor films. Among other things, it embraces bold colors and psychedelic backdrops; themselves direct nods to Jack Kirby’s trippy comic book work and illustrations. Tone-wise, the film also takes a lighter route – but don’t be deceived, as Ragnarok also promises plenty of universe-altering changes. Some of those will even have direct repercussions on next year’s cumulative Marvel Cinematic Universe tentpole, Avengers: Infinity War.
The latest Ragnarok poster released by Marvel is a special one specifically geared for a South Korean movie-going audience. It mines inspiration from traditional Korean art by Kim Hong-do’s Sangbak and features Thor and Hulk in what it looks like a fierce battle of Ssireum (a native game similar to Japanese sumo wrestling). Odin (Anthony Hopkins) and the Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum) are shown watching the pair here, while Hela (Cate Blanchett) appears to be heckling them from the sidelines. Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and Heimdall (Idris Elba) are also shown getting cozy with each other here, while Loki (Tom Hiddleston) serves as a hype person, taking bets regarding the ongoing bout. Strange, however, sits by himself and appears to be concentrated on using his warping abilities to get out of there. You can check out the poster for yourselves, below:
