Mersal has done exceedingly well in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Overseas and is set for a record breaking 5 day extended weekend at the box office.  It broke the first weekend record of Kabali and Baahubali 2 within two days itself and now it is set to beat the first week record of Baahubali 2 within 5 days itself.

The film has simply surprised with its record breaking consistency in spite of scathing reviews, piracy and political pressure to chop off scenes. The controversies has only helped Mersal emerge much stronger at the box office.

With Mersal, Thalapathy Vijay has become the first South India Actor to have 5 100 Crore Grossers. Rajinikanth has 3 100 crore Grossers to his name but he is way ahead of rest because he has two 250 crore Grossers too. Vijay might touch 200 crore Gross for the first time in his career if Mersal continues to perform such extraordinarily for couple of more weeks at the box office.

Mersal should become Vijay’s Highest Grosser in Tamil Nadu by the end of Sunday or Monday in worst case scenario. Though it’s a long road to recovery but the extraordinary business in the first four days has made sure that the film could emerge a success sooner than expected at the box office.
